Abstract

The present study aimed to determine the plant species richness of an urban green space — the Radhabai Kale Mahila Mahavidyalaya campus in Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra. A total of 325 plant species (including five infraspecific taxa) from 255 genera and 81 families were documented. The dominant plant families were Fabaceae (24 species), Asteraceae (22), Euphorbiaceae (19), Apocynaceae (18), Asparagaceae (15), and Poaceae (14). In addition to the 314 angiosperms species, the study also recorded eight gymnosperms species, and three pteridophytes species. The majority of the recorded plants were planted for academic purposes, contributing to the green space and biodiversity of the college. These plants have various uses: many are ornamental, some have medicinal or edible properties.
