Preliminary observations on avifauna of the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary (Suraha Tal Lake), Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, India

The present paper deals with the avifauna of the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary in the Suraha Tal Lake, one of the largest flood plain wetlands in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The study was conducted between August 2002 and July 2004. During the survey, a total of 91 birds representing 32 avian families were recorded. Of them 59% are resident, 23% are seasonal migrant and the remaining 18% species are local migrant.Published
