With reference to my article (Venugopal
2010) in the Journal of Threatened Taxa, I would like to record the
following updated information in the published Table 1 which provides the list
of Saurid reptilian species with valid distributional
records within India (Category A). While
199 lizard species were listed in Table 1, two other species with valid
distributional records in India, were inadvertently
excluded. This comprised of the Gekkonid Geckoella albofasciatus (Boulenger,
1885) which was originally described by Boulenger
(1885) with “South Canara” as the type locality and
also reported from areas around Goa (Bauer & Giri
2004). The other species is the Eublepharid, Eublepharis fuscus (Börner,
1981) which was elevated from a subspecies of Eublepharis macularius
fuscus to a separate species by Das (1997), with region around
Mumbai as type locality. Thus the total
number of lizard species with valid distributional records from Indian limits
is 201 (including Category B, species reported from regions politically
disputed by India and Pakistan). Also,
based on the update, the results provided in Table 2, Category A, should read
as 72 in Gekkonidae and 3 in Eublepharidae
(See the updated Table 2 provided).
Other information provided in the rest of the article remains correct to
the best of my knowledge.
