Abstract

In Pakistan, a total of 81 species under 42 genera of hoverflies are currently known.  As a result of ongoing studies on the family Syrphidae from the Pothwar region of Punjab, we have updated the list of new and known records of the genus Volucella Geoffroy, 1762.  The present study includes the diagnostic key, checklist, and distribution of known species, Volucella peleterii (Macquart, 1834), V. pellucens tabanoides Motschulsky, 1859, and V. ruficauda Brunetti, 1907.  Volucella pellucens tabanoides Motschulsky, 1859 is a new record for Pakistan.  Detailed photographs of all known species including the new records, their diagnostic characters and newly visited plants are provided.
